The Plaisted Preserve is a protected public preserve owned and maintained by the Town of Owls Head. Georges River Land Trust holds the conservation easement that protects the preserve from development. The property is mostly mossy woodland with large stands of white pine and fern patches as you get closer to the ocean.

The 0.6 miles of trail winds through this forest leading down to a small cove looking back toward Rockland.

From the trailhead, it is relatively level hike with no substantial elevation gain or loss throughout.

No overnight camping is allowed.

There is a small parking lot on the north side of North Shore Drive, about 2.5 miles from the roads intersection with route 73.
