About the event

Join us for: Keeping Track of Scaled Jewels: Biology and Conservation of Maine’s Butterflies, an educational session and exploration led by Maine Butterfly Survey Coordinator and wildlife biologist Phillip deMaynadier. This program will take place on Saturday, August 9th from 10am-12pm. 


During the first hour of the workshop, Phillip will give a presentation about his research on butterflies, their life cycles, and the habitats where they thrive. The second hour will be spent exploring the fields around the preserve looking for butterflies, dragonflies, and other wildlife. 


This program is free and open to all ages! Please register as space is limited.


Parking for Gibson Preserve is located at 621 Woodsman Mill Rd in Searsmont. The preserve features a 0.2-mile wheelchair accessible trail, wide-seated wooden benches providing river views, and a spacious field next to the parking lot for picnicking.
