Protect the Rockland Bog!
Join us to protect our most ambitious project ever! We are poised to acquire 500+ acres of the western woodlands buffer of the Rockland Bog, increasing the protected wilderness in Rockland’s backyard, by 50%. Home to waterfowl, wading birds, deer, beaver, rabbits and other wildlife, it’s been a favorite of local outdoor enthusiasts, hunters and hikers for generations.
Our campaign has been kickstarted with a grant of MNRCP mitigation funds. Now we need the community to help us match their generous contribution.
The Rockland Bog is the largest peat bog in midcoast Maine, and is a giant sponge that stores carbon, mitigating the effects of climate change. The Bog filters rainwater in the Oyster River watershed which protects the health of the Oyster and St. George Rivers, their fish and shellfish, and ultimately, us.
