Pool Preserve Snapshot
The Pool Preserve in Union is a little three-acre gem on a wild section of the Georges River. There is a very short walk to the river from Sennebec Road, soon to be filled with lush spring green and rusty relics from the Georges River Canal of old.
The avid hikers of Maine by Foot plotted their walks on both sides of the river, making a nice map of the trails.
This section of the river was historically referred to as the “upper falls.” One of the locks in the historic Georges River Canal, dating back to the 1800’s, was located here, and its remains can be seen from The Pool. Every boat or other vessel was charged a toll of …(Read more)
