Community Engagement Manager
The Georges River Land Trust (GRLT) was founded in 1987 to conserve the ecosystems of the Georges River watershed in Midcoast Maine. To date, we have protected nearly 5,500 acres of forestland, fields, farms, and waterways. We maintain 70+ miles of trails and also steward a unique art environment. We are a dynamic eight-person team based in Rockland, Maine, and we created this new position to scale up our community engagement to inspire more individual and collective action to protect and care for the natural resources in the Georges River watershed.
This full-time permanent position is ideal for a self-propelled extrovert, storyteller, and community organizer who embodies a genuine passion for our mission. Your responsibilities require increasing our community engagement through designing, hosting, and coordinating in-person events; leading our storytelling and community outreach activities; and, managing our website and social media work. You will have the opportunity to imagine, lead, and implement a program of your own making and with your own creativity and ingenuity.

Primary Responsibilities

Design and lead our in-person community engagement efforts. Implement and improve upon GRLT’s community engagement strategy to promote awareness of protecting nature through conservation and nature-based climate solutions. Design, coordinate, and execute a slate of events that highlight our conservation efforts, educate our community about local ecosystems, and inspire further engagement with GRLT and our preserved lands.

Create compelling content to tell the story of our work and showcase our community's conservation champions. Identify and amplify stories and content that will further inform and inspire our community. Lead our efforts to better understand what resources and support our community and members seek and lead the process to both create and distribute those resources via offline and online engagement.

Grow our online presence and engagement. Lead and manage our website, newsletter, and social media efforts. Further refine our messaging to best increase the engagement of our current members and grow our community of supporters. Regularly evaluate our user metrics in order to implement data-driven strategies that best leverage our online tools and resources to better reach new audiences.

Strengthen our partner collaborations. Build and maintain strong relationships with local communities, environmental organizations, and other relevant partners with a shared interest in GRLT’s mission to protect nature in the watershed. Collaborate with businesses, conservation commissions, and local community groups to increase the impact of our events and initiatives.
Desired Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Communications, Marketing, or a related field, with at least three years of related work experience. Track record of designing and leading successful storytelling and compelling community engagement efforts to increase awareness and inspire action. Experience working in conservation is a plus.

Required Qualifications

Technical: Strong technical proficiencies with computer software necessary to conduct the duties of the position, including but not limited to Meta Business, Microsoft Office, and Google Office, and smartphone applications.

Travel: Our office is located in Rockland, Maine, but our work spans across 19 communities throughout Midcoast Maine. Consequently, this position will require significant travel via your own car (with your own valid driver's license and evidence of insurance). Travel via your own vehicle and you will be compensated for work-related mileage.

Time: Ability to work some evening and weekend hours to support work-related events.

Compensation
