Abbie Read’s Art Studio Tour
June 22, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm$45 – $55
The glorious peonies at the entrance to the beautiful two-story studio on Appleton Ridge Road will welcome guests to Abbie Read’s creative refuge. It houses a multitude of intriguing objects and materials she uses in her three-dimensional wall pieces, constructions, and collages. Abbie will discuss the various processes she uses in constructing her larger pieces as well as small collages, many of which will be on view here. As a former landscape and garden designer, Abbie finds that the natural world has always in some way informed her art. And while not calling herself an expert in making books, she incorporates these skills, as well as her passion for collecting old books and odd objects, into her constructions.
Abbie’s work is widely exhibited. In 2013 an 18-foot-long wall piece, just a portion of a larger work, was included in the Portland Museum of Art Biennial, with a large section of it later installed in the U.S. ambassador’s residence in Doha, Qatar.
Refreshments will be served after the tour and talk. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Please arrive promptly at 2:00. Talk begins at 2:15.
Host: Abbie Read
