Mother’s Day Daffodils and Dessert
May 8, 2016 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm$35 – $45
This Mother’s Day, bring your mom out for an afternoon of daffodils and dessert! Growing up in Lakeland, Florida, it was too hot to grow any bulbs so our host, Elinor Klivans, was flower bulb deprived for many years. When she moved to Maine, she had her chance to make up for those years in the subtropics, and she has! Her daffodils surround her house—there is no lawn and they are tucked in by the hundreds in the trees, behind the leafless roses, in groups of at least a hundred or more. Since 1983, Elinor has planted bulbs every year. It began with a hundred a year and then she just kept planting more and more. She now plants at least 500 every fall. She buys collections and single varieties that appeal to her aesthetic.
After enjoying the daffodils, guests are invited into Elinor’s house to enjoy drinks and desserts, with a few savories too. You won’t want to miss these treats since Elinor is a notable cookbook author and food writer who has published articles for Bon Appetit, Fine Cooking, Cooking Pleasures, and the Washington Post, among others. A former pastry chef, she is a member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals. Celebrate Mother’s Day at a garden party to launch us into spring!
