Conserving the Langlais Estate in Cushing
Georges River Land Trust is delighted to announce a new partnership with the Colby College Museum of Art and the Kohler Foundation. We are working together to protect the Cushing, ME, estate of Bernard “Blackie” Langlais for conservation and to create a public sculpture park. Blackie Langlais (1921-77), a renowned Maine artist, created hundreds of wooden reliefs, sculptures, and thousands of works on canvas and paper.
During 2013 we will work closely with our partners to design the sculpture park to honor his legacy including restoration of several outdoor sculptures, interpretive signs, trails, and parking. After these improvements are complete, the Kohler Foundation will grant the property to the Land Trust. We hope to have a grand opening sometime in the late spring of 2014.
There are still many details to work out, however, this innovative partnership was recently featured in the Portland
Press Herald.
