“Sticks and Stones” Exhibition to benefit Langlais Sculpture Preserve
July 13, 2018 - July 15, 2018
“Almost twenty years of living on a small island has focused my art on what is close and observable – your neighborhood, the fragility of island life, the importance of clean, plentiful water and the need to preserve wilderness. If you commit to a specific locale, observe it for an extended period and learn the questions to ask, there is much a small place can teach. I am an artist whose work has evolved over years of observation, experimentation and hard work. I currently use wood, metal and paint to record life on Matinicus Island on the outer edge of Penobscot Bay and along the St George River in Cushing, Maine. My 2018 show, “Sticks and Stones” at the Historical Society Barn in Cushing, features birds and fish carved and painted in styles that reflect Western/European and Native American/Aboriginal art and paintings of the cobblestone beaches on Matinicus Island.” David Sears
