Canoe & Brew Party
May 26 @ 1:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Georges River Land Trust and Lake St. George (LSG) Brewing Company will co-host a special “Paddle & New Brew” Memorial Day weekend fundraiser for GRLT on Saturday, May 26, at LSG Brewing Company, 4 Marshall Shore Road (Sherman’s Corner), in Liberty. The public is invited to attend.
The day will begin with a paddle on Lake St. George at 1 pm. Paddlers are invited to gather at the Lake St. George public access (map), just .6 miles north of the brewery on Route 3 in Liberty, with their own canoes and kayaks and life jackets. GRLT Stewardship Program Manager Brent West will lead the paddlers on a tour around the locally renowned Hawaii 2 Island. All ages are encouraged to attend, with children being accompanied by adults responsible for their care.
Meanwhile – beginning at about 2 pm – back at Lake St. George Brewing Company, owners Danny McGovern, daughter Elizabeth and her husband Jeff Johnston, will be tapping kegs and filling growlers with their latest craft brew, Headwaters Kölsch, brewed in honor of Georges River Land Trust.
Outdoor games will be available around the fire pit, with food by Northwoods Gourmet Girl, and music provided by Ezra Rugg from 2 to 4:30 pm, and the Ale House String Band from 5 to 7:30 pm.
Lake St. George Brewing Company has a long history in the area, going back to 1993 when Danny and his partner, Kellon Thames, first opened Lake St. George Brewing Company as only the 6th brewery to operate in Maine. The resurrection of Lake St. George Brewing Company just last summer now involves the whole family, including another daughter, Mary, who with her husband, Matt, operates Monhegan Brewing Company on Monhegan Island.
Craft beers, now a staple of tourism across Maine and across the world, draw lots of people headed to Belfast and Bar Harbor, as well as many locals, to the Lake St. George Brewing Company in Liberty.
Lake St. George Brewing Company believes in giving back to the community, and has a special interest in non-profits caring for the environment. LSG will donate a percentage of proceeds from May 26th’s event to benefit Georges River Land Trust. Thank you!
