Ash Point Preserve Opening to the Public
August 22 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
The public is invited to join Georges River Land Trust for a short walk on the new Ash Point Preserve in Owls Head at 4 pm on Tuesday, August 22. Along the way, Brent West, Georges River Land Trust Stewardship Manager, will describe the management goals for the property. Visitors will enjoy a spectacular view of Penobscot Bay and Ash Island from the 2,140-foot granite shoreline.
This new 34-acre preserve was originally protected in 1986 through a conservation easement. Now as it becomes a preserve open for public access, Eliza Bailey, the Land Trust’s original Executive Director, will talk about this property’s place in the Land Trust’s history in a brief dedication ceremony.
Directions to the new parking lot: From Rockland, drive south on Rte. 73, turn left onto North Shore Drive, turn right on Ash Point Drive. Go about 2.5 miles and look for the parking lot on the left. If the lot is full, please carefully park along the road shoulder.
This event is free and open to the public and is part of a series of events celebrating the Land Trust’s 30 years of conservation in the midcoast.
