Aldo Leopold Film Screening
March 2, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
The words Aldo Leopold wrote in 1948 still strike a note today: “There are some who can live without wild things, and some who cannot.” These words are the start of Leopold’s famous book, A Sand County Almanac, one of the best-loved conservation classics of all time. Aldo Leopold’s land ethic continues to spread across the country thanks to the continued momentum of the annual Aldo Leopold Weekend celebration, an event where readings from A Sand County Almanac often take center stage.
In partnership with the Friends of Maine Coastal Islands NWR, we will be screening the Emmy award winning film “Green Fire,” a full-length documentary that explores Leopold’s extraordinary career and his enduring influence – tracing how he shaped the modern conservation movement and continues to inspire projects all over the country that connect people and the land. The screening will be held in the Maine Coastal Islands NWR Visitor Center at 9 Water Street in Rockland.
The event will be introduced by Christine Parrish, environmental writer for The Free Press, who is helping to coordinate events throughout the weekend in multiple venues along the midcoast. More details will be posted so stay tuned!
